Pons Aelius

  • I can most often be found as the flute player in this instrumental 6 piece. We formed whilst at university in Newcastle around 4 years ago and have enjoyed touring home and abroad ever since! With 1 album under our belts we are soon to begin recording our second in the new year. “Pons Aelius are a testament to the strength of the North East folk scene. With a healthy share of Scots, they’re the most exciting band to come out of Newcastle in a long time. Their musical style is a wild liberation from the ordinary that fits the post-trad generation like a glove. Their original material is skillful and sincere. I can’t wait to see where they’ll be in a few years time.” David Foley, RURA.

Sam Partridge & Grace Smith

  • Although we’ve been playing music together in various settings over the past 7 years or so, this particular duo is our most recent project. Focussing largely on the traditional instrumental music of England we have been lucky enough to work on our music in residency at Sage Gateshead – August 2018, and Halsway Manor- January 2019.

Jordan Aikin and Bad Phantom

  • It was great to be asked to join my good friend, and Pons colleague, Jordan Aikin to be a part of his new band. A gifted musician and composer, this band concentrates on arranging Jordans tunes into fun and exciting sets.

The Rachel Hamer Band

  • I have played with Rachel since we met at university. Along with Graeme Armstrong and Grace Smith we were lucky enough to receive the Graeme Miles Bursary in 2016 which was put to good use in getting an album recorded.                  “The magic of these four lies in their cutting-edge combination which whilst steeped in the tradition has a brilliant fresh sound” – Folk Radio UK

My own stuff

  • I am yet to release any music as solo artist but, there are irons in the fire so watch this space!
